Chromatic Low Whistle Head joint (only) Vertical By Nick Metcalf

It allows you to use the body of a flute with a low whistle head joint to play the instrument vertically and blow in the end like a whistle instead of the standard horizontal flute position. It also gives a chromatic instrument to low whistle players.

It took a lot of science and experimentation to develop a design that would keep good tuning and intonation when using the whistle head joint, as simply putting a whistle mouthpiece in a flute body does not work. This head joint has been developed over about 10 years and has been perfected so that is looks and plays beautifully and all the notes of all the octaves play in tune with each other. This listing is for the head joint alone, does not come with the flute body pictured. Please note that I cannot assure you this will fit your flute.

You will need to measure the outside diameter of your current tuning slide and if it is 19.75mm it should fit. Please note that I developed this instrument and although many have tried to copy my design you will get an inferior product anywhere else. Unfortunately I have a full time job as a teacher so I get very limited time to make these and they are very popular so they go really fast. This is a multi item listing. You will receive an instrument that looks nearly identical to the one pictured but may have slight aesthetic differences as the wood for the fipple plug may look a little different and the decorative turning designs may be slightly different. Key of low C/D (chromatic). Tunable with removable head joint tuning slide size of 19.75mm. Includes only the head joint, no flute. Head joint is made from aluminum with stabilized burl wood for the fipple plug.

Solid low notes, yet easily plays through the range of the flute body. Sound is crisp and clean and gives you that haunting Celtic low whistle sound.

Please note: I often get asked if I will sell the head joint without a flute. The answer is yes, but I greatly prefer to have the flute it is getting paired with in hand when I make it so that I can ensure perfect fit and tuning as there is quite a variety of tuning slide sizes in flutes and it may not perfectly fit your flute. But feel free to send me a message if you prefer the head joint alone. I can try and make it to size if you have a caliper to measure the exact size of your head joint.
